About this blog…

inch for inch…all the way to Carpentaria.

On Monday 1st October 1860, Robert O’Hara Burke, Leader of the Burke and Wills Expedition told the men that from today they “had to walk, inch for inch, all the way up to the Gulf of Carpentaria, as all the camels and the horses were required to carry stores etc.”

This blog charts the random thoughts and idle musings of Dave Phoenix during the preparation and execution of a walk across Australia in 2008 following in Burke’s faded footsteps some 148 years after the original expedition.
